Many have the impression you can find iconic blue water and white sand almost anywhere in the Caribbean, with all-inclusive properties abounding in each location.
But, I, Leanne, wouldn't be dedicating a blog to the topic if it were that easy!
Let's talk about where you're likely to see the bluest of waters in the Caribbean, on a gorgeous day. Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas are usually strong contenders in this category, due to how shallow the water is around the islands, and the "ABC" islands are usually a solid choice - Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. The Virgin Islands, British and U.S., also boast that beautiful light blue color. Here's the thing, many of our clients come to us wanting an all-inclusive resort, and you just do not find many of them in the destinations listed above. We have a couple options sprinkled throughout, but it's important to be open to the option of staying at a property that is not all-inclusive.
What many don't realize is the coastline along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico (Cancun and Riviera Maya specifically) can actually have some incredibly blue water as well. I know you probably weren't thinking Mexico when you thought of blue water, but it's true. The pictures below are from my camera, NO FILTER, from different properties throughout the Cancun region and below.
The "sargassum" effect can make the beauty of the beaches in this region hit or miss, depending on the time of year. Each resort can vary in how highly committed they are to keeping their beach clean, when this affect hits, and some regions are much less impacted than others. That's one of the reasons we call ourselves "advisors". Our job is to keep you informed of these details and patterns we keep track of, so you can make the best decision for yourself.
When clients are looking to step into that iconic photo at the top of this post, with not only blue water but also white, picturesque sand, we start to look into the best availability in Turks and Caicos or the Bahamas, since both destinations are easier to get to than the other islands I mentioned. But, don't rule out a boutique hotel stay in the Virgin Islands, or a romantic stay at one of the few all-inclusive properties located in Curacao, Antigua, Grenada, or St. Vincent. It may take a bit longer of a flight to get there, but the unique experience and views from your beach lounger will very much be worth it.
If the budget is tighter, the Cancun area is your best option. The competition there is healthy and works to the advantage of the millions of visitors who frequent the area each year.
I don't know about you, but my heart rate just relaxed a bit as I imagined looking out over nothing but that water, and feeling the fine sand under my feet.
